The total cost of a funeral depends on many things:
- Type of burial: in a coffin in the ground, or of an urn after cremation
- Type of ceremony: Catholic or secular
- Choice of coffin or urn: a range of materials and designs
- Transport: distance, repatriation abroad
- Place of burial: cemetery fees, plots in municipal and parish cemeteries
- Decorations: wreaths, sprays, flowers, ribbons
- Funeral grant: reduces the cost borne by the family (see below)
Types of funeral compared

The funeral grant: how to claim it
The funeral grant from ZUS (Social Insurance Institution) is paid to the person who covered the cost of the funeral. A family member receives the full grant, and a person from outside the family a refund of documented costs up to the statutory limit. The amount depends on the date of death, as the rules changed on 1 January 2026; ZUS gives the current amounts on zus.pl.
If the deceased was insured with KRUS (Agricultural Social Insurance Fund), KRUS pays the grant to the person who bore the cost of the funeral, in the amount set by the pension regulations. We will help you prepare the documents needed to claim the grant; this is one of our standard services.
