Mourners entering a cemetery chapel

Since 1993, Lilia has been arranging funerals in Kraków, taking care of the formalities, the transport of the deceased, obituaries and death notices, and the ceremony at Kraków's cemeteries. Our funeral helpline answers around the clock: +48 507 111 211. After the first call we come to collect the deceased, and agree the date and order of the funeral with the family. We serve in keeping with Kraków's funeral tradition, with dignity and respect for the dead.

We have our own hearses, a mortuary and a farewell room. Our bearers and staff are experienced in conducting funerals.

Frequently asked questions about arranging a funeral

What should I do if the death occurred at home?

If you are not sure that the person has died, please call the emergency number 112 or 999. The death and its cause are established by the doctor who treated the deceased during their last illness or, if the death occurred while an emergency medical team was at work, by the head of that team. This person completes the medical certificate of death.

Once the medical certificate of death has been issued, please call us on +48 507 111 211, day or night. We will come to collect the deceased and help with the remaining formalities. You can read more in our guide What to do when someone dies.

What documents are needed for a funeral?

The key document is the medical certificate of death. It is submitted to the Register Office, which registers the death and adds a note of the registration to the certificate. Burial requires the medical certificate of death bearing this note. We can handle the formalities at the Register Office and with ZUS and KRUS on the family’s behalf.

How much is the funeral grant?

The amount of the funeral grant from ZUS (the Social Insurance Institution) depends on the date of death, as the rules changed on 1 January 2026; ZUS gives the current amounts on zus.pl. A member of the deceased’s family who paid for the funeral receives the full grant. A person from outside the family, or an institution, that paid for the funeral can receive a refund of documented costs up to the statutory limit. The grant is payable if the deceased met the conditions described on the gov.pl website, for example if they were receiving a retirement or disability pension. We help prepare the documents needed to claim the grant.

How can I find out the date and time of a funeral in Kraków?

Families whose funeral we are arranging receive the date and time of the ceremony directly from us. Funeral times can also be checked in the funeral schedule published by the Municipal Cemeteries Authority in Kraków (ZCK).
