The funeral of Franciszek Ryś, father of Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś

On 23 April 2025, Lilia Funeral Home conducted the funeral of Franciszek Ryś, father of Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś.

The funeral Mass was celebrated at the Church of Our Lady of Fatima on the Podwawelskie estate in Kraków. In his homily the Cardinal remembered his father as a man who “was approachable to all without ever losing his authority”. Family, friends and clergy attended the Mass.

After the liturgy, the funeral procession went to Salwator Cemetery, where Mr Ryś was laid to rest beside his wife Maria, to whom he had been married for more than fifty years.

For many years Franciszek Ryś worked at the library of the Pontifical Academy of Theology in Kraków.
